The Department of Applied Sciences, strives to provide the best learning in the Undergraduate Engineering Program. We are producing, engineering leaders who will solve the problems of the new century, fostering scientific inquiry but never losing sight of its human implications.
One among the finest departments to be established in VAST- TC is the Department of Applied Sciences which forms an integral part of the institution. The Department of Applied Sciences is an amalgamation of various disciplines like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English and Physical Education.The department has highly qualified and dedicated staff committed towards teaching, research and development.
Under KTU it is mandatory that the Under Graduate level Engineering courses should encompass Mathematics up to the fourth semester; Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry, English & Language Lab in the first & second semesters; Life Skills in the third & fourth semesters. Applied Sciences Department works collaboratively to meet the competitive requirements of the engineering pupils.

ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS
The objective of the courses is to create engineers with strong mathematical background, creative thinking and problem solving skills, through systematic training and by discovering feasible solutions to challenging real world problems.
ENGINEERING PHYSICS & ENGINEERING CHEMISTRY
The study of physics and chemistry are inevitable part of all engineering streams. It helps the students to express their creativity and thereby contributing innovative ideas for the growing technology.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS & LIFE SKILLS
Engineering courses give substantial importance to communication skills . Life Skills inculcate the essential qualities and skills they need to acquire in their life to be a successful and competent person in this dynamic and stressful world.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical Education is given prior importance in any educational field and KTU recognizes that Physical development is equally important for the complete development of an individual. Several activities and games are planned to motivate the students.

Laboratories and other facilities
Applied Science Department holds three labs- Physics Lab,Chemistry Lab and Language Lab, the pillars of strength of the institution. The Lab provides practical knowledge and it aims to instil curiosity in the minds of students as well as upgrade them with the advanced technology of the day.
Engineering Physics Lab and Engineering Chemistry Lab provides practical experiences on various engineering streams and mould the students to equip with the world of technology.
Language Lab focus to improve and enhance students in their communication skills and thereby boosting self confidence to express their ideas. The labs strive to mould professionals par excellence.
Seminar on Observance of National Science Day,27 February,2019
A well organised National Science Day, 2019 was celebrated at Vidya Academy of Science and Technology Technical campus, Kilimanoor on 27 February,2019 commenced at 10 am in the Mechanical Seminar Hall (SB-617). The programme was organized by the Department of Applied Science under the guidance and leadership of Prof A K Subhadevi, Head of the Department. The Chief guests of the day were Prof Juhaina Ahad (Head of Chemistry, TKM College of Engineering ,Kollam) an academician and author of many books and Dr.C V Sree Hari ( Scientist, NPOL DRDO, Kochi).
The formal function commenced with the invocation by college choir and lighting of the lamp. This was followed by a welcome address of Prof A K Subhadevi. Dr. T Mathavaraj Ravikumar, Principal delivered the presidential address. One of the Chief Guests Dr. Sree Hari C .V. delivered inaugural address and Er. R Devarajan, Project Director , delivered felicitation. A message from Shri Suresh Lal, Finance Director , was read out in the occasion.
As Part of National Science Day Applied Science Department has organised a Quiz programme and the winners of the competition were given prizes by Er R Devarajen ,Project Director .Students who secured second place and third place were given prizes by Dr.C V Sreehari (chief guest) and Dr.T Mathavaraj Ravikumar respectively.
Seminar On 31st National Science Day, 28th February, 2017
Applied Science Department of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology Technical Campus, Kilimanoor pompously celebrated the 31st National Science Day on 28th February, 2017 under the leadership of Prof A K Subhadevi, HoD Applied Science.
Chief Guest of the day was Dr.R Raveendran, Rtd Principal SN College Varkala. Prof Vijayakumar, Principal in-charge, Er. Devarajan, Project Director and Dr. Anil B, Academic Director, Prof A K Subhadevi were other dignitaries. HoDs of all branches extended their support by grazing the occasion.
As part of National Science day, 2017 Applied Science Department had organized a Quiz Programme on 27th February, 2017 at Seminar Hall. Mr Anoop, Asst Prof in Mathematics was the Quiz Master.
Mr Abhijith P K(S2 EEE) banned the Ist Prize and was awarded cash Prize of Rs 1000/ by Dr.R Raveendran, Chief Guest.
Second Prize was shared between Mr. Harisankar (S4, ECE) and Mr. Nandhu (S4,CE) and they received cash Prize of Rs. 500/ each from Er Devarajan,Project Director and Dr. Anil B, Academic Director.
Third Prize was secured by Mr. Sourav (S2,ME) and he was presented cash Prize of Rs. 250/ by Prof. Vijayakumar.
A session by Dr R Raveendran was arranged based on Career Guidance in Science. Afternoon Session was handled by Dr. Sreekanth R, Asst Prof MMNSS College, Kottiyam on the topic Nanoscience.
The 31st National Science Day was a great success as the students participated whole-heartedly. The function was exemplary for the co operation and unity of Applied Science Department. The programme was well organized and conducted with the support and guidance from all the staff of VAST.
