A group of 55 students from the 2023-27 batch and the 2022-26 batch ECE VAST TC visited the
International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS) on 8 April 2026, as part of an
industrial visit to gain practical knowledge about modern open-source technologies. During the
session, experts introduced important topics such as Open Source IoT, LoRaWAN Architecture,
Open Source Drones, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The session explained how
open-source platforms are used to develop smart and cost-effective technological solutions. 
The company also arranged an interactive lab session, where students were introduced to
different types of drones and their applications. In addition, the team demonstrated 3D-printed
models of GIS-mapped areas and explained the working principles of LoRaWAN architecture
used for long-range IoT communication. Staff Members Ms. Anjana N (AP ECE) and Ms.
Aswini Dutt (AP ECE) accompanied the students.
